THE FUTURE OF MEDICINE IS PET/CT

What is PET?
The future of medicine is PET/CT Positron Emission Tomography . PET is the most advanced medical diagnostic imaging technology available today for the early and accurate detection of cancer and its recurrence. It also provides valuable information regarding certain diseases of the heart (e.g., determination of tissue viability) and brain (e.g., dementia, Parkinson's disease).

A recent publication of famous Morgan Stanley Research states : PET/PET CT. This market is still relatively small at US$ 1.0 billion but is growing strongly. Positron Emission Tomography requires the patient to ingest or inject a radioactive isotope, for example, fluorodesoxyglucose (FDG) which releases positrons at the cellular level. These collide with electrons creating a light pattern (from photons) that can be scanned. The key aspect of this technology is that pre-cancerous cells typically show heightened metabolic activity that can be detected early on. There is a migration within the market from standard PET scanners to PET CT, which uses two ‘machines’ on a single scanner, allowing the clinician to see if cells are precancerous (the PET part) but also to see uncover physical problems such as lesions (the CT part).Source: Company data, Morgan Stanley research

GE Healthcare, which holds the largest share of China's medical equipment market, has announced it will develop middle and low-end products targeting China's rural market.
"We'll still focus on large cities, but we're developing new products and strategies to fulfill the medical needs of urban communities and rural areas," said Joe Hogan, president and chief executive officer.
China has around 800 million people living in rural areas. The government has outlined plans to build a "new socialist countryside" and will increase its investment in medical technology for rural areas.
"GE Healthcare looks forward to the challenges presented by this opportunity. We hope to provide inexpensive, high-quality products to help the government achieve its goal," said Hogan in an interview with Xinhua.
The first multinational health care company to enter China, GE Healthcare reported sales in China of more than 700 million U.S. dollars last year, about five percent of its global sales. Around 10 percent of the company's employees live and work in China. Read more click here
